Ododo Unveils Plans for Zariagi Airport Take off

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has unveiled plans for the commencement of civil works at the Zariagi International Airport, confirming that construction will begin in 2026.

The governor made this known during the 2025 AKK Business Development Roadshow and strategic launch of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline held at the Government House in Lokoja.

Governor Ododo revealed that the airport design phase took the state government eight months to complete and it is currently undergoing review by relevant stakeholders.

He reaffirms the state’s readiness to partner with local and international investors, noting that several prospective investors have already indicated interest to support the infrastructure development phase of the Zariagi airport project.

Governor Ododo who reiterated Kogi’s strategic position as a connecting point between the North and Southern Nigeria, maintained that his administration will sustain the culture of continuity and responsible governance, stressing that no project will be abandoned under his watch.

He restated commitment to consolidate on the achievements of previous administrations while ensuring that ongoing projects are completed on schedule.

Proposed upgrade of the Zariagi Airstrip to an International Airport was conceived and presented to the federal ministry of aviation and aerospace development by the Kogi state government in 2024.
