APC Records Over 2m Members One Week Into e-Registration
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded over two million digitally verified members nationwide barely one week after the commencement of its electronic membership registration exercise.
The National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists after a meeting between the National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and state coordinators of the registration exercise at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
Basiru said the meeting also had in attendance the Lagos State Chairman of the APC and Chairman of the APC State Chairmen Forum, Pastor Cornelius Odogabi, as well as the Secretary of the forum, the Taraba State Chairman.
According to him, the registration exercise is being carried out in line with a directive of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), which mandated that all APC members be digitally captured before the end of January 2026.
“The NEC is the second most important powerful organ of the party and I have been given the directive that before the end of January, we want all our members to be digitally registered,” Basiru said.
He explained that the digital registration is aimed at strengthening the party’s internal organisation and operational efficiency, stressing the importance of data management to modern political parties.
“The significance of the registration is underscored by the fact that data is very important to management, to operational efficiency of any organisation, no less than that of a political party that thrives on mobilisation, organisation and consultation of members,” he noted.
Basiru revealed that the National Chairman charged state coordinators to intensify the exercise immediately, warning that sanctions could be applied where necessary.
“Any states that are found lacking, we at the National Working Committee have been given the latitude to change the status of the state coordinators if they are not on hand,” he said, adding that the NWC also has the mandate to review the exercise on a state-by-state basis.
Giving an update on the progress so far, the National Secretary said the party had already exceeded expectations.
“As of today, just a week into the exercise, with many of the states yet to even start in full throttle, Nigerians who are registered to be members of APC are already in excess of two million members, who are digitally verified and have their name and also have their voter registration number,” Basiru stated.
He expressed optimism that the figure would rise significantly in the coming days.
“By next week, we should be in the region of about eight or nine million members by the grace of God,” he said.
Basiru urged party stakeholders across the states to take the exercise seriously, describing it as fundamental to building a strong and responsive party structure.
“It stands at the roots of ensuring that we have an organic party that is in sync with mobilising Nigerians for the support of the Agenda of our President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he added.
He also commended party leaders and members at the state level for their commitment to the success of the exercise, noting that challenges identified during the process were being addressed through engagements with relevant stakeholders.
