Fubara Refutes Claims of Backing ADC Candidates Ahead of Rivers Bye-Elections

Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed allegations that he is supporting candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the forthcoming bye-elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to conduct the bye-elections to fill two vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Ahead of the polls, the All Progressives Congress (APC) concluded its primary election, producing Napoleon Ukalikpen and Bulabari Henrietta Loolo as candidates for Ahoada East State Constituency II and Khana State Constituency II, respectively.

Both candidates are widely regarded as political allies of former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. This development had sparked speculation in some quarters that Governor Fubara was unhappy with the outcome of the primaries and was allegedly plotting to support ADC candidates against the APC.

Reacting to the claims, Fubara described the allegations as “blatant lies from the pit of hell,” insisting that he remains fully committed to the APC.

“The APC in Rivers State is one family. What happened was that in the build-up to the primaries, the President intervened and asked everyone to support the candidates of the former Governor and Minister of the FCT for peace to reign,” the governor said.

He questioned the logic behind the claims, stressing that all parties involved belong to the same political family.

“If these candidates are members of the APC and we are all members of the same party, how can I be supporting the candidates of another political party? These are blatant lies from the pit of hell,” Fubara added.

The governor accused political detractors of deliberately spreading falsehoods to create division within the APC in Rivers State, noting that such efforts were unnecessary and counterproductive.

Fubara assured party members of his continued loyalty to the APC and pledged to work towards the party’s victory in the forthcoming bye-elections.

He also urged the people of Rivers State to remain focused on governance and development, cautioning them against being distracted by what he described as baseless and mischievous claims.
