The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Charles Anosike, and the Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Danjuma Ismaila, have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening professional training and service delivery in Nigeria’s aviation and meteorological sectors.

The partnership was sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at NiMet headquarters in Abuja.

The agreement reflects a shared commitment by both institutions to deepen collaboration in capacity development, professional training and improved operational standards across the aviation industry.

Under the MoU, Nigerian Meteorological Agency and Nigerian College of Aviation Technology will collaborate in the use of training facilities, provide advisory support for aviation training programmes, and deliver specialised long- and short-term courses for NiMet personnel.

The partnership also provides for staff exchange programmes, joint training initiatives, and the use of NiMet’s Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, for aviation training that complies with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Key professional areas covered under the framework include aviation operations and management, safety management systems, crisis management, aviation security, air navigation systems, airport operations, and jointly organised programmes such as a Diploma in Aviation Meteorology.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Anosike reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to continuous human capital development, stressing that sustained investment in training, technical collaboration and institutional partnerships is vital to achieving operational excellence.

He noted that the collaboration would support safe and efficient air navigation in Nigeria while strengthening the country’s aviation and meteorological services.

The MoU is expected to enhance the quality of manpower development and reinforce standards in both sectors.
