NIMC DG Praises Online Editors for Boosting National ID Awareness

The Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr (Dr) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has commended the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) for their role in promoting the National Identity Number (NIN) enrollment campaign across Nigeria.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by ACOE to the NIMC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, the DG described the media partnership as vital to the agency’s mandate.
Engr Coker-Odusote, represented by the Director of Human Capital Management, Mrs. Rhoda Jackden, highlighted NIMC’s achievements under her leadership, including improvements in staff welfare, operational efficiency, and a steady rise in NIN enrollment, which is key to accessing government services.
She noted that over 3,700 staff were trained last year to ensure effective service delivery and that the agency is now focusing on enrollment at the ward level to ensure every Nigerian obtains a NIN.
“This initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to improve government services and ensure all Nigerians are accounted for,” Coker-Odusote said, adding that the collaborative efforts with media partners like ACOE have been instrumental in increasing public awareness.
ACOE Chairman, Sola Akingboye, praised the DG’s transformative leadership since 2023, noting that NIMC has registered over 120 million Nigerians to date.
He highlighted operational reforms that reduced extortion and unauthorized fees by 40 percent at enrollment centers, resolved long-standing payments owed to Front-End Partners, and introduced more than 800 mobile enrollment devices to underserved areas. Over 2,500 new systems were deployed to modernize infrastructure and improve efficiency.
Akingboye also acknowledged staff welfare initiatives, including salary increases of 25–30 percent, promotions for over 3,000 employees, and benefits such as complimentary transportation and food programs.
He emphasized ACOE’s commitment to ethical journalism and responsible reporting to amplify NIMC’s accomplishments, counter misinformation, and educate Nigerians on the importance of digital identity compliance.
During the visit, Engr Coker-Odusote was presented with a symbolic muffler by ACOE, representing recognition of her significant contributions to advancing NIN enrollment and strengthening Nigeria’s digital identity system.
Also present at the meeting were NIMC’s Director of Media and Communications, Kayode Adegoke, Mr. Elvis Alagbegbe, Director of the Office of the DG, Halima Lawal, Head of Content, Mrs. Rhoda Jackden, and representatives of ACOE.
