Police Arrest man for Killing Brother Over ‘Dream Attack’

A 43-year-old man has been taken into police custody in Oyo State for allegedly killing his elder brother after accusing him of shooting him in a dream.

The incident was confirmed on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, in a statement issued in Ibadan.

According to the police, the tragic event was reported at the Ago-Amodu Divisional Police Headquarters by a resident of the community, Badmus Yunisa, who lives in Alegunlode Compound in the Sepeteri area of the state.

Olayinka explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect confronted his older brother, identified as Mustapha Amidu, while he was sitting within the compound.

The police spokesman said the suspect allegedly accused the deceased of attacking him in a dream before carrying out the violent act.

He stated that the man allegedly picked up a large stone and struck his brother on the head before fleeing from the scene.

“The tragic incident was reported at the Ago-Amodu Divisional Police Headquarters by one Badmus Yunisa of Alegunlode Compound, Sepeteri area of Oyo State,” Olayinka said.

He added that the victim was quickly rushed to Ileri-Oluwa Hospital in Sepeteri in an attempt to save his life, but medical personnel on duty later confirmed him dead.

Following the report, the police said officers from the Ago-Amodu Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, visited both the scene of the attack and the hospital as part of preliminary investigations into the incident.

Olayinka disclosed that the suspect has since been arrested and is currently assisting the police with their investigation.

“The suspect allegedly approached the deceased where he was seated, picked up a heavy rock, struck him on the head, and fled the scene immediately,” he said.

The police spokesman further revealed that the suspect has confessed to the crime during interrogation and is cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more detailed probe.

According to the police command, the transfer is aimed at ensuring a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances that led to the killing.

The command assured members of the public that justice would be pursued in the matter and urged residents to remain calm while the investigation continues.
