FRSC Operatives Return N3.7m Recovered from Zaria Crash Scene

Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zaria have recovered and returned N3.7 million in cash and other valuables from the scene of a fatal road accident along the Zaria–Funtua highway.

The money, amounting to N3,727,500, alongside valuables estimated at about N500,000, was discovered during rescue operations following a crash involving a Toyota Corolla and a Peugeot 806 near Zaria Academy on Sunday.

The accident, which involved nine passengers, left one person dead while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, rescue teams from the FRSC Zaria Unit Command responded promptly to a distress call and provided first aid before evacuating the injured victims to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, for medical treatment.

During the rescue and subsequent clearance of the crash scene, officers reportedly discovered a large sum of money and other personal belongings scattered across the area.

The statement said the operatives secured the cash and valuables to prevent them from getting lost or stolen before arrangements were made to return them to their owners.

On Monday, the Zaria Unit Commander, Chief Route Commander Nasiru A. Falgore, formally handed over the recovered money to the victims in the presence of their relatives and witnesses.

The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, commended the officers for what he described as a demonstration of the corps’ core values of honesty, accountability and service.

Mohammed said the conduct of the Zaria operatives reflected the culture of discipline and transparency expected of personnel of the corps across the country.

He also praised the unit commander and members of the rescue team for upholding professionalism while carrying out their duties.

Beneficiaries of the recovered cash reportedly expressed gratitude to the FRSC officers for safeguarding their money and valuables at a difficult moment, noting that the operatives not only responded swiftly to the accident but also ensured that their property was protected.

They also pledged to support road safety campaigns in their communities by promoting responsible driving and adherence to traffic regulations.
