NiMet Unveils 2026–2030 Strategic Plan to Boost Climate Services, Performance

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has launched its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, aimed at strengthening service delivery, improving institutional performance, and enhancing climate resilience across the country.
Speaking at the unveiling in Abuja, the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Charles Anosike, described the initiative as a major milestone in the agency’s evolution, noting that it builds on over 140 years of meteorological service in safeguarding lives and property in Nigeria.
According to him, the plan serves as a comprehensive performance management roadmap designed to align the agency’s weather and climate services with Nigeria’s broader national development goals.
“NiMet is implementing a comprehensive Strategic Plan (2026–2030) as a performance management roadmap to align its weather and climate services with Nigeria’s national vision,” he said.
Anosike added that the agency is poised to become the first public institution in Nigeria’s aviation sector to fully institutionalise a Balanced Scorecard system, anchored on five key pillars: employee growth and development, strategic partnerships, technology and innovation, quality service delivery, and revenue diversification.
The launch also highlighted NiMet’s performance under the Federal Government’s results-driven governance framework coordinated by the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU), established at the onset of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen accountability across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
The framework, which includes a Presidential Performance Bond and results-based budgeting system, is designed to ensure measurable outcomes in public sector operations.
Also speaking, the Managing Consultant and Chief Executive Officer of Balanced Scorecard West Africa (BSWA), Kayode Sufianu, commended NiMet for adopting the Balanced Scorecard approach as its strategic management framework.
He noted that the system enables organisations to translate strategic objectives into measurable outcomes across key areas, including stakeholder engagement, financial stewardship, internal processes, and organisational capacity.
Sufianu attributed the successful development of the plan to the commitment of NiMet’s leadership and its internal strategy team, describing it as a model for other public institutions.
As part of the rollout, the NiMet boss also unveiled the agency’s refreshed core values under the acronym I-PACE; Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability, Commitment, and Excellence which he said would guide the implementation of the new strategy.
He expressed confidence that the plan would position the agency to deliver more efficient, technology-driven, and impactful weather and climate services to support national development.
