Qatar Declares Iranian Envoys Persona Non Grata After Gas Facility Attack

Qatar has declared Iranian military and security attaches at its embassy in Doha persona non grata, ordering their immediate departure following a reported missile attack on a key gas installation.

In a statement released Wednesday, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the affected officials, along with their staff, have been given 24 hours to leave the country.

The move, authorities said, was prompted by what they described as repeated hostile actions by Iran, including the latest strike targeting critical energy infrastructure.

The attack reportedly hit facilities linked to Ras Laffan Industrial City, a major hub for gas processing and export. State-owned QatarEnergy confirmed that the strike caused fires and significant damage within the complex.

It was gathered that the site had been evacuated prior to the incident after Iran issued warnings of possible attacks on multiple locations across the Middle East.

The development comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf, following earlier strikes on Iranian gas facilities by the United States and Israel, which Tehran has blamed for provoking its retaliatory actions.

Security analysts say the expulsion of Iranian officials signals a sharp diplomatic escalation, with potential implications for regional stability and global energy markets.

Although Tehran has yet to issue a detailed response, the incident underscores growing concerns over the vulnerability of strategic oil and gas assets in the region.

Qatar reiterated its commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and critical infrastructure, while warning against further actions that could destabilise the Gulf.
