Shettima Visits Maiduguri Bomb Explosions Victims, Assures of FG Support

Vice President Kashim Shettima with one of the victims of the Monday bomb explosions, at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), on Wednesday.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday visited survivors of the recent bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, as part of the Federal Government’s response to the deadly attacks.

Shettima was at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where victims are receiving treatment, to commiserate with them and convey the sympathy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The attacks, which occurred on Monday night during the breaking of fast, claimed at least 23 lives and left about 108 others injured after explosions went off at different locations across the Borno State capital.

In a statement by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice-President expressed deep sorrow over the incident, mourning those who lost their lives and assuring the injured of the government’s support.

He said the Federal Government stands in solidarity with the people of Borno State during what he described as a difficult period.

During the visit, Shettima interacted with some of the victims and medical personnel, commending health workers for their prompt response and dedication to saving lives.

Sources indicated that the explosions, suspected to have been carried out by suicide bombers, targeted crowded areas of the city, triggering widespread panic and raising fresh concerns about security in the North-East.

As part of measures to contain the situation, President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed Service Chiefs to relocate to Borno State to coordinate security operations and prevent further attacks.

Maiduguri, which has long been at the centre of insurgency activities in the region, has witnessed intermittent violence despite sustained military efforts to restore peace.

Authorities said security has since been strengthened across the state, while investigations are ongoing to track down those responsible for the attacks.
