EFCC Seals Off Abubakar Malami Abuja Residence

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday restricted movement around the Abuja residence of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, in a move that drew attention from residents in the highbrow Maitama district.
Eyewitnesses said the operatives arrived in several vehicles and took positions along Koranakh Close, off Amazon Street, effectively limiting access to the area. Visitors and residents were reportedly turned back as security presence intensified around the street.
The anti-graft officials, clad in EFCC-branded jackets, were seen stationed at key points within the neighbourhood, while entry into Malami’s residence at No. 2 Koranakh Close was also restricted.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had yet to officially disclose the reason for the operation.
The development comes amid ongoing legal battles involving the former minister, who is facing multiple charges. Malami is currently standing trial over a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering alongside his wife and son.
He has, however, denied all allegations, describing the case as a targeted campaign against him. In a recent interview, Malami insisted he would defend himself in court, maintaining that his experiences in custody were part of a broader life journey.
“I have spent time in EFCC custody, Kuje Prison, and with the DSS. I believe it is all God’s will, but I will defend myself against the allegations,” he said.
The former attorney-general was earlier arrested and later re-arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in January. He also alleged that his rights were violated during the course of investigations, including claims of being denied access to his family and legal team.
In February, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted him and his son bail in the sum of N200 million each in connection with separate allegations.
Despite the mounting legal pressure, Malami has continued to defend his record in public office, stating that he has no regrets about his time in government.
The situation around his Abuja residence has further heightened public interest in the case as legal proceedings continue.
