Iran Denies Talks with US, Contradicts Trump’s Claim

Tensions between Washington and Tehran have intensified following sharply conflicting statements about alleged diplomatic contacts between the two countries.

On Monday, United States President Donald Trump claimed on his Truth Social platform that the US and Iran had engaged in “very good and productive conversations” over the past two days.

According to Trump, the talks were aimed at achieving “a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.” He said the alleged negotiations prompted him to halt previously threatened strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure, signalling what he described as a diplomatic breakthrough.

However, Iranian state media, Press TV, quickly contradicted Trump’s account. A senior Iranian security official dismissed the claims, insisting that no direct or indirect negotiations had occurred.

“Negotiations are not happening, and psychological warfare won’t restore the Strait of Hormuz or stabilise energy markets,” the official said.

He added that Trump’s five-day ultimatum only highlighted the United States’ ongoing plans for potential attacks, which Iran said it would counter with full-scale defensive measures.

According to NDTV, the official further suggested that the United States’ temporary halt on strikes reflected “credible military threats” from Iran and mounting financial pressures on Washington and its allies.

The contradictory statements from the two nations have left international observers and global energy markets uncertain about the actual state of US-Iran relations, with analysts warning that the situation remains volatile.
