Akume Leads North Central to Back Tinubu, Promises Highest Votes in 2027
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, on Wednesday led leaders and delegates from the North Central geopolitical zone to endorse President Bola Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election.
The endorsement took place during the APC North Central Zonal Congress held in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, where party stakeholders gathered to chart the region’s political direction ahead of the polls.
The motion for Tinubu’s adoption was moved by Akume and seconded by the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, receiving unanimous approval from delegates present at the event.
The congress was attended by governors from the zone, former governors and their deputies, members of the National and State Assemblies, ministers, and other key political figures.
Addressing the gathering, Akume described the endorsement as a reflection of the region’s confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and ongoing reforms. He also highlighted his role in fostering unity within the zone.
“As the North Central leader of the party, I have the responsibility to ensure unity and strategic alignment among stakeholders,” he said.
He further assured that the region would deliver the highest number of votes for the president in the next election.
“The North Central has done so much for this country to preserve the country’s unity. Nigerians are proud of you, and we must be proud of ourselves… With the politicians I have seen here, North Central will provide the highest number of votes amongst the six geopolitical zones,” Akume stated.
The SGF urged party members to remain united and committed to the APC’s programmes, noting that early consensus on Tinubu’s candidacy would strengthen the party’s chances and allow it to focus on governance.
He added that the zone remains firmly aligned with the party’s vision of economic recovery, infrastructure development, and national cohesion.
The endorsement was greeted with loud applause from delegates, many of whom described it as a strategic move to consolidate the party’s position ahead of the 2027 elections.
