APC Convention: FG Orders Secretariat Workers to Work from Home, Closes Roads
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Federal Government has announced the closure of access roads around the Federal Secretariat Complex and Eagle Square in Abuja, alongside a directive for affected workers to stay off their offices, ahead of the forthcoming national convention of the All Progressives Congress.
The directive was contained in a circular issued on Thursday by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, Abdul Garba.
According to the circular, all access roads leading to and around the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phases I, II and III, will be closed from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, March 28, 2026, due to the use of Eagle Square for the APC National Convention.
The government explained that the measure is aimed at ensuring smooth coordination and security during the high-profile political event expected to draw thousands of delegates and party officials to the nation’s capital.
As part of the arrangements, civil servants working within the affected areas have been directed to work remotely on Friday, March 27. The directive specifically applies to staff of ministries, departments, and agencies located within Phases I and II of the Federal Secretariat Complex, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The circular read in part, “All Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments, Agencies and Offices located within the Federal Secretariat, Phases I, II and III are hereby informed of the closure of all access roads leading to and around the Federal Secretariat Complex from Friday, 27th to Saturday, 28th March, 2026.”
It further stated, “Accordingly, all personnel whose offices are located within Phases I and II of the Federal Secretariat Complex as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are to work from home on Friday, 27th.”
The government also directed all Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Agencies to ensure that the information is communicated to their staff and that strict compliance is maintained.
The APC National Convention, scheduled to hold at Eagle Square, is expected to attract over 8,000 delegates from across the country, prompting heightened security and traffic management measures within the Three Arms Zone and surrounding areas.
The closure of roads and temporary shift to remote work are part of broader efforts to minimise disruption, manage traffic flow, and ensure public safety during the event.
Residents and commuters in Abuja have been advised to plan alternative routes and movements during the period, as increased security presence and restricted access are anticipated around key government locations.
