Adelabu Resigns as Power Minister to Join Oyo Guber Race

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has stepped down from his position to pursue his ambition of becoming governor of Oyo State.
In a resignation letter dated March 26, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Adelabu said his decision was driven by the need to fully commit to his political aspiration.
He expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve in the administration, describing his tenure as a privilege.
“I write with profound gratitude to formally tender my resignation as Honourable Minister of Power of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
Adelabu thanked the President for the confidence reposed in him and the chance to contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening the nation’s electricity sector in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that stepping down would allow him to dedicate his time and resources to his governorship bid in Oyo State.
“My decision is to enable me fully pursue my aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State,” he stated.
Adelabu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and a past governorship candidate in Oyo, is expected to re-enter the state’s political arena ahead of the next election cycle.
His exit from the federal cabinet marks a significant political move, as attention shifts to the unfolding contest in Oyo State.
