FG Declares Friday, Monday Public Holidays for Easter Celebration

The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration.

The declaration was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora on the occasion of Easter, describing it as a period of reflection on the values exemplified by Jesus Christ.

He urged Nigerians to imbibe virtues such as selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love, noting that these ideals remain essential for peaceful coexistence and national development.

The minister also called on citizens to remain committed to the values of tolerance and unity, which he said are critical to sustaining harmony in a diverse society.

According to him, the Federal Government remains focused on policies and decisions that will drive national rebirth, economic growth and shared prosperity for all Nigerians.

He expressed optimism that the season would inspire renewed hope and collective responsibility among citizens.

Tunji-Ojo further wished Christians a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration, encouraging Nigerians across religious and ethnic lines to use the period to promote peace and strengthen national cohesion.

The Easter celebration, observed by Christians worldwide, commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and is regarded as one of the most important events in the Christian calendar.
