The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has commended the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, describing President Bola Tinubu’s recent public endorsement of the Customs boss as a testament to the remarkable progress being recorded by the Service under his leadership.
The revered monarch said the recognition from the President was a reflection of the confidence reposed in Adeniyi and the tangible results being achieved by the NCS in key areas of national economic development and security.
Oba Ogunwusi spoke during the annual Eid-el-Kabir gathering hosted by the Comptroller-General at his residence in Modakeke, Osun State. The event attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, senior Customs officers, community stakeholders, family members, friends and associates.
According to the monarch, President Tinubu’s public expression of satisfaction with Adeniyi’s performance was not made lightly, but was based on the achievements recorded by the Customs Service since he assumed office.
“We are very proud of him and the work he is doing. When Mr President publicly expressed satisfaction with his performance, it was not a casual statement. It reflects trust in his capacity and the results he is delivering,” the Ooni said.
The monarch noted that beyond his official responsibilities, Adeniyi had continued to make meaningful contributions to community development and social cohesion, describing him as a leader who has remained connected to his roots despite occupying a strategic national position.
“What he is doing in the Customs Service and in the community shows that he is a unifier. He brings people together, and that is what leadership is about. We will continue to stand by him and pray for him,” he added.
The Ooni said the achievements of the Customs chief had become a source of pride not only to the ancient Ife Kingdom but also to the people of Modakeke, who have continued to identify with his accomplishments on the national stage.
In his remarks, Adeniyi expressed gratitude to the monarch, traditional leaders, community representatives, family members and other guests for their support and goodwill.
He described Eid-el-Kabir as a period that reminds humanity of the virtues of sacrifice, obedience, gratitude and selfless service, stressing that such values remain essential for national development.
According to him, the annual gathering provides an opportunity to reconnect with people, strengthen relationships and reflect on the shared responsibility of building stronger communities and a better nation.
The Customs boss highlighted some of the achievements of the Service, including improvements in revenue generation, trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, technological innovation and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
He said the NCS remains committed to supporting the economic objectives of the Federal Government through reforms aimed at facilitating legitimate trade, enhancing national security, improving compliance and creating opportunities for economic growth.
Adeniyi noted that the Service has continued to deepen its investment in community-focused programmes across the country, including educational support initiatives, healthcare interventions and other projects targeted at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
He assured stakeholders that Customs would sustain ongoing reforms designed to strengthen operational efficiency, transparency, professionalism and service delivery.
The Comptroller-General also thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the nation, reaffirming the commitment of the Service to policies and programmes geared towards economic prosperity, national development and the successful implementation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
