DSS Arrests Female Suspect With 220 Rounds Hidden in Garri in Kano

Operatives of the Department of State Services have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, in Kano for allegedly attempting to deliver 220 rounds of ammunition to bandits operating in Katsina State.
Security sources said the suspect was intercepted at a motor park in Kano while taking delivery of the ammunition, which had been concealed in sacks of garri alongside cash.
The arrest followed intelligence reports that led operatives to track and apprehend her before the consignment could be moved out of the state.
During interrogation at the DSS command, Nafisa reportedly confessed that the ammunition was meant for bandits in Kankara forest area of Katsina.
She said she hails from Zango village in Kankara Local Government Area and had been involved in the illicit trade for about two months.
The suspect also told investigators that she received the ammunition through a military officer based in Lafia, Nasarawa State, although she claimed she had never met the officer physically.
According to her, deliveries were often arranged through intermediaries and collected at designated points, including the Unguwa Uku motor park in Kano.
She further disclosed that a man identified as “Mallam Haruna” usually collected the ammunition from her for onward transmission to armed groups.
“Haruna who usually collects the ammunition for onward delivery to bandits has always been part of the supply chain,” she said.
Nafisa also mentioned other alleged collaborators, including individuals identified as Buba and Abu, who were said to be operating within forest enclaves in Katsina.
She claimed to have handled transactions worth about ₦5 million in the course of the operation.
The suspect, however, expressed regret over her involvement in the illegal activity.
Security authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the arrest, but investigations are ongoing to uncover the wider network behind the supply of arms to criminal groups in the region.
