FRSC Deploys Personnel, Assets for Nationwide Easter Patrol
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps has commenced its 2026 Easter Special Patrol operations nationwide, deploying personnel and logistics to major highways to ensure safe and hitch-free movement of road users during the festive period.
The development was announced in a statement signed by the Acting Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, at the Corps headquarters in Abuja.
According to the statement, the exercise, which runs from April 1 to 8, was approved by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, in response to the anticipated surge in vehicular and human traffic as Christians celebrate Easter.
Mohammed said the operation is designed to enhance road safety through strategic deployment of personnel and equipment across identified high-risk corridors nationwide.
He listed critical routes under special surveillance to include Lagos–Ibadan, Sagamu–Ore–Benin, Abuja–Lokoja, Benin–Auchi–Okene, Kaduna–Zaria–Kano, Ilorin–Mokwa–Birnin Gwari, Bauchi–Gombe, as well as eastern corridors such as Onitsha–Asaba–Benin, Onitsha–Owerri, and Enugu–Aba–Port Harcourt.
Personnel and operational assets, including patrol vehicles, ambulances and tow trucks, have been positioned along these routes to improve traffic flow, ensure quick emergency response and boost visibility.
The Corps said it would intensify enforcement against major traffic offences linked to road crashes, including speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline and use of mobile phones while driving.
Other violations targeted during the exercise include tyre-related offences, road obstructions, mix-loading of passengers with goods, non-use of seat belts and child restraints, as well as operation of mechanically deficient vehicles.
To strengthen compliance, the Corps said mobile courts would be deployed along major highways for the immediate prosecution of offenders.
“This is to ensure prompt dispensation of justice and promote discipline among motorists,” the statement noted.
It added that round-the-clock patrol, rescue and traffic management services have been activated nationwide, supported by modern enforcement tools.
The Corps also said it would intensify public enlightenment campaigns through National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM and other platforms to provide real-time traffic updates and safety advisories to road users.
Mohammed assured Nigerians of the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property, urging motorists to obey traffic rules and avoid reckless driving.
He also advised road users to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.
Members of the public were urged to report emergencies through the toll-free number 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC for prompt assistance.
