The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued a nationwide weather advisory for Friday, warning of increasing rainfall activity across several parts of the country alongside prevailing warm conditions.

In its latest outlook, the agency said northern states will experience largely sunny skies in the morning, with patches of cloud and isolated thunderstorms expected later in the day, particularly over Taraba and Adamawa states.

NiMet noted that while the region will remain mostly hot, localized storms could develop as the day progresses.

“Predominantly sunny and hot conditions will prevail, with isolated thunderstorms expected in some areas later in the day,” the agency stated.

For the central region, including Nasarawa and Benue states, the forecast indicates a cloudy start with intervals of sunshine, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in the afternoon and evening.

The agency advised residents to plan outdoor activities early, as weather conditions are expected to deteriorate later in the day.

In the southern states, NiMet projected more widespread rainfall, beginning with cloudy skies and brief sunshine in the morning before giving way to thunderstorms across states such as Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Imo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.

It added that rainfall is expected to intensify across most parts of the region as the day advances, although Lagos and Ogun states may experience mainly cloudy conditions without significant rainfall.

NiMet warned that the anticipated weather could lead to reduced visibility and disruptions, particularly for motorists and outdoor activities.

“Strong winds may precede thunderstorms. The public is advised to take necessary precautions, including securing loose objects and driving carefully due to slippery roads,” the agency said.

The agency also cautioned residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant during periods of heavy rainfall, while urging Nigerians to stay hydrated amid the prevailing heat.

Airline operators were further advised to obtain location-specific weather reports to ensure safe flight planning and operations.
