Easter: Police Deploy Tactical Teams to Worship Centres
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered a nationwide security deployment ahead of the Easter celebrations, directing commanders across the country to ensure a peaceful and incident-free holiday.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the police boss also extended greetings to Christians marking Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, describing the season as one of reflection and renewal.
The directive, according to the statement, mandates Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders in all states and the Federal Capital Territory to activate comprehensive security arrangements to safeguard lives and property during the festive period.
“The Inspector-General has directed the implementation of robust security measures, including the strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operatives to worship centres and critical infrastructure,” the statement read.
It added that personnel of the Special Intervention Squad, alongside conventional police officers, have been mobilised to key public locations such as highways, motor parks and recreational centres.
The police said the move is aimed at ensuring “peaceful and hitch-free celebrations” across the country, particularly during the Easter long weekend, which traditionally witnesses increased movement of people.
As part of the operational strategy, the IGP also ordered heightened visibility policing, coordinated patrols and enhanced surveillance activities nationwide. Intelligence-led stop-and-search operations are to be intensified in areas considered vulnerable.
“These actions are designed to proactively deter criminal activities and guarantee a swift response to any emerging threats,” the statement added.
While assuring Nigerians of adequate security, Disu urged citizens to remain vigilant and support law enforcement efforts by providing timely information.
He called on members of the public to report suspicious movements or incidents to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
The police chief further wished Christians a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration, urging all Nigerians to embrace the values of unity, love and sacrifice associated with the season.
