FRSC Recover Suspected Stolen Vehicle in Ekiti

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a suspected stolen vehicle in Ekiti State, leveraging its National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) platform to track and verify the car’s identity.
The recovery, which shows the agency’s growing use of technology in tackling automobile-related crimes, followed a routine documentation process at the NVIS Desk Office in Ado Ekiti.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, the FRSC headquarters in Abuja said the breakthrough occurred on March 23 during manual uploads of vehicle records.
According to the Corps, suspicion was raised when details submitted by a Motor Vehicle Officer from Emure Local Government Area did not align with standard manufacturer specifications.
“The chassis number failed to conform with the standard sequence for a Toyota Camry 2006 model, which immediately raised concerns,” the statement said.
Acting on the anomaly, the NVIS Desk Officer conducted further checks by correcting the chassis number and running it through the national database, which revealed a match with a vehicle reported stolen two years ago.
“Prompt contact with the original owner confirmed the theft, setting in motion a coordinated recovery process,” the Corps added.
Following internal briefings, efforts were made to get the suspect to present the vehicle for verification, but when this failed, the case was escalated to the police.
A team of officers from Irewolede Police Station in Ilorin later recovered the vehicle on March 31 at about 10:30 a.m. in Emure Ekiti, acting on credible intelligence.
The FRSC described the operation as a proof to effective inter-agency collaboration and the importance of the NVIS database in protecting vehicle ownership records nationwide.
“This remarkable feat highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the critical role of the NVIS in safeguarding vehicle documentation integrity,” the statement said.
The Corps reiterated its commitment to clamping down on vehicle-related fraud and urged members of the public to ensure proper documentation and verification of vehicle details.
It added that such measures are essential to avoid legal complications and to strengthen national security.
