Early Morning Explosion Rocks Kaduna Motor Park

A powerful explosion in the early hours of Sunday rocked a busy motor park in Kaduna, destroying multiple vehicles and sending panic through the area.
The incident occurred around 4:00 a.m. at Mando Garage, a major transport hub in the city, when a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered bus suddenly exploded, triggering a fire that spread rapidly to nearby vehicles.
Preliminary information indicates that the affected vehicle belonged to Silver Travel & Luxury Bus. The force of the blast engulfed at least one other luxury bus parked close by, while several smaller vehicles stationed within the park were also damaged in the inferno.
Witnesses described hearing a loud bang that shook the vicinity, followed by flames and thick smoke that quickly covered parts of the garage.
“The impact of the explosion extended to a second bus and nearby parked vehicles, causing significant damage and panic within the area,” an account of the incident stated.
Visuals from the scene showed charred remains of buses and burnt-out vehicles, with one of the luxury buses reduced to mangled metal, highlighting the intensity of the explosion.
A digital creator, Mahmud Ahmad Abubakar, who visited the location shortly after the incident, shared images of the destruction on social media, capturing the extent of the damage.
Although the exact cause of the explosion has not been officially determined, early assessments point to possible factors such as gas leakage, cylinder failure, or improper handling of the CNG system.
Despite the scale of the destruction, no casualties were recorded, a development attributed to the early morning timing when passenger movement at the park was still low.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of CNG-powered vehicles, which are becoming increasingly common in Nigeria’s transport sector amid rising fuel costs.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of Silver Travel & Luxury Bus had yet to release an official statement on the incident.
