Troops Arrest 2 Suspects, Recover Fabricated AK-47 in Jos Security Sweep
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have arrested two suspects and recovered a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle during intensified security operations across the Jos metropolis in Plateau State.
The arrests were made on Friday as part of a comprehensive stop-and-search exercise launched to contain rising tensions in Jos North and adjoining areas.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Media Information Officer of the task force, Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the operation was described as a proactive move aimed at preventing further escalation of the crisis and restoring normalcy.
“The heightened security presence yielded immediate results as troops successfully intercepted and arrested two suspects, as well as recovered one fabricated AK-47 rifle along with four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one pump-action firearm with a cutlass,” he said.

Oteh explained that the arrests and recoveries followed targeted operations across identified flashpoints and major transit routes, including Jos North and Jos South, covering locations such as Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-cost Housing Estate.
In a related development, troops responded to a distress call over sporadic gunfire in the Yelwa Cattle Market area of Shendam. He said the gunmen fled into nearby bushes upon the arrival of security forces.
“During a subsequent sweep of the area, two local residents were found with gunshot wounds. They were immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment,” he added.
The task force reiterated its resolve to maintain a strong operational presence across Plateau State, assuring residents that efforts to stabilise the security situation would be sustained.
“The operations will continue with increased vigour until the threat of violence is completely neutralised and lasting peace is restored across all affected communities,” the statement said.
