2027: Yusuf Buhari Declares Interest to Contest House of Reps Seat

Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has indicated interest in contesting for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
The development was confirmed on Monday by a former aide to the late president, Bashir Ahmad, amid growing speculation on social media about Yusuf’s political ambitions.
According to Ahmad, Yusuf has communicated his intention to stakeholders after what he described as wide consultations.
“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” Ahmad said in a post on his X handle.
In a letter dated April 3 and said to have been signed by Yusuf, he expressed readiness to seek the mandate of the people, pledging to contribute to leadership and development in the constituency.
“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter read.
The constituency, which covers Sandamu, Daura and Mai’Adua federal constituency in Katsina State, has long been considered a stronghold of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Yusuf’s move marks his most significant political step since his father left office in 2023, as he has largely maintained a low public profile in recent years.
Political observers say the declaration could reshape dynamics within the constituency ahead of party primaries, though it remains unclear how other aspirants within the APC will respond.
