Kaduna High Court Grants El-Rufai Bail

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna in the corruption case instituted against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The court ruling, delivered on Tuesday, allows the former governor to regain his freedom upon meeting the bail conditions stipulated by the court.

El-Rufai was seen leaving the court premises under the watch of security operatives shortly after the decision was announced.

Confirmation of the development came from political associates, including a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as well as his son, Bello El-Rufai.

The bail ruling comes against the backdrop of ongoing legal proceedings involving the former governor at a Kaduna State High Court, where the ICPC recently amended a separate set of charges against him.

In that case, El-Rufai has pleaded not guilty to the allegations brought against him.

During earlier proceedings, the ICPC had urged the court to exercise caution in granting bail, arguing that investigations were still ongoing and that releasing the defendant prematurely could affect the integrity of evidence gathering.

However, counsel to the defendant, Ukpong Abang, insisted that his client had cooperated fully with investigators and would not evade trial.

“Our client has complied with all investigative requests and is prepared to abide by any bail conditions the court may impose,” Abang told the court.

The defence position was anchored on the argument that El-Rufai posed no flight risk and remained willing to face trial.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State High Court handling the related matter has adjourned proceedings to April 21, 2026, for ruling on pending applications.

The cases mark the latest development in the legal battle involving the former governor, as anti-corruption authorities continue their prosecution over alleged financial infractions.
