Mark Faction of ADC Expels Bala, Abejide, Others Over Alleged Disloyalty

Fresh cracks have deepened within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the faction led by David Mark announced the expulsion of several party members, including a rival factional chairman, Nafiu Bala.

Also affected by the decision is Leke Abejide, alongside Kingsley Temitope, Obinna Norman, Kennedy Odiong and Stella Chukwuma.

The expulsions were ratified on Tuesday at the party’s national convention in Abuja after a motion moved by Binos Yaroe, representing Adamawa South. Delegates adopted the motion through a voice vote.

Party officials said the action followed allegations of anti-party conduct against those affected. Speaking at the convention, the organising secretary, Chinedu Idigo, accused them of worsening the internal crisis rocking the party.

“They have sown seeds of discord within the party and sought to create factions, doubts and confusion across the polity, the public and even regulatory bodies,” he said.

According to him, efforts were made to get the affected members to change course, but they did not respond.

“They were given time to retrace their actions but failed to do so,” Idigo added.

The development is the latest twist in a prolonged leadership tussle within the ADC, which has intensified since an opposition coalition assumed control of the party structure in July 2025.

Nafiu Bala, who claims to be the legitimate chairman, has consistently challenged the emergence of the Mark-led leadership, describing it as unlawful.

The crisis took another turn earlier this month when the Independent National Electoral Commission declined to recognise the Mark-led faction, citing an interim ruling of the Court of Appeal.

Attention is now on the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which has fixed April 22 to hear an appeal filed by Mark against a suit instituted by Bala challenging his position.

With the latest expulsions, the struggle for control of the party appears far from settled, as both sides continue to stake claims to its leadership.
