Stampede Claims Three at Ekiti Varsity Convocation After-Party

Tragedy struck in Ikere-Ekiti as three persons were reportedly killed during a stampede at a post-convocation party linked to Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology.
The incident, said to have occurred late Saturday night at a hotel venue in the town, involved two students of the institution and a staff member of the facility, according to preliminary reports.
Eyewitnesses said the chaos began when a large crowd attempted to move simultaneously between sections of the venue, triggering a crush that left several people injured and at least three dead.
Sources indicated that the situation quickly spiralled out of control as attendees struggled to exit or gain access to different parts of the event space.
As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the victims had not been officially disclosed, while authorities were said to be working to notify families and ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials are expected to release a formal statement after preliminary investigations, with police and medical authorities likely to provide clarity on casualty figures and possible safety lapses.
The development has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a celebratory moment for graduating students, raising fresh concerns about crowd control and safety measures at large social gatherings.
