FRSC Returns N1.12m Recovered from Crash Scene to Victim’s Family

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has handed over the sum of N1.12 million recovered from the scene of a fatal road crash to the family of the deceased, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and accountability.

The Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the money was retrieved during a rescue operation following a crash that occurred on April 11, 2026, at Idu Village along the Gegu–Abaji route.

According to the FRSC, the accident involved a Toyota Corolla and a Volkswagen Golf, with the driver of the latter, Mallam Aliyu Mohammed Bala, sustaining severe injuries. He was later confirmed dead at the hospital despite efforts to save his life.

During the operation, members of the FRSC Zebra Team reportedly recovered N1,120,000 along with other personal belongings from the crash scene, all of which were properly documented in line with standard procedures.

The corps said the recovered sum was formally handed over to the victim’s family during a brief ceremony held at the command on April 20.

The deceased’s elder brother, Bala Yakubu, received the money on behalf of the family in the presence of witnesses, including N. Yusuf and Aminu Mahmud Maku.

The handover was conducted by the Acting Unit Commander, Chief Route Commander RC Ojonugwa E. Ejah, alongside other senior officials.

Reacting, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the gesture as a reflection of the corps’ dedication to ethical standards.

“This is another powerful testament to our strong commitment to accountability and professional conduct,” he said, while extending condolences to the family of the deceased.

The FRSC reiterated that it remains committed not only to saving lives on the highways but also to upholding integrity in all its operations.
