Obi Meets Bala Mohammed Behind Closed Doors in Bauchi

(L-R) Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed and ADC Chieftain, Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Thursday held a private meeting with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, sparking fresh speculation over emerging political realignments ahead of future elections.

Obi, a leading figure in the opposition coalition linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arrived at the Government House in Bauchi earlier in the day and proceeded straight into a closed-door session with the governor.

Details of the meeting were not immediately disclosed, as both leaders remained in talks at the Presidential Lounge at the time of filing this report.

However, sources within the Government House suggested that discussions may centre on evolving political dynamics and possible alliances in the run-up to the next electoral cycle.

Both politicians are expected to address journalists after the meeting.

The development comes amid shifting signals from Mohammed regarding his political direction. The governor, who chairs the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, had on March 31 indicated interest in the ADC as a potential platform, while hosting a delegation led by former SGF, Babachir Lawal.

Days later, however, he received the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, further fuelling uncertainty about his next political move.

Observers say Obi’s visit adds another layer to the unfolding political permutations, particularly within opposition ranks seeking broader coalitions ahead of the next general election.
