A former Senior Special Assistant to ex-Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, has alleged that missing government critic, Abubakar Idris, was killed in his presence.
Kamarawa made the allegation in a statement circulating on social media and in a petition reportedly addressed to the Inspector General of Police.
Dadiyata, a lecturer and social media commentator known for criticising political leaders, was abducted by gunmen from his residence in Kaduna on August 1, 2019. Since then, his whereabouts have remained unknown.
The latest allegation has reignited public interest in the unresolved case, with several commentators calling for an independent investigation.
A screenshot containing Kamarawa’s claims in Hausa surfaced online on Thursday, attracting widespread reactions across social media platforms.
In the petition, Kamarawa accused two senior police officers, CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba, of intimidation, extortion, unlawful house search and conducting what he described as a biased investigation against him.
He further alleged that he was pressured during interrogation sessions not to disclose his relationship with Matawalle.
“In the course of investigation, I was forced by them not to disclose my relationship with former Governor of Zamfara State, Dr Bello Matawalle,” parts of the petition read.
Kamarawa also alleged that he was threatened with death during the process.
“They threatened to kill me as they killed Dadiyata and Saminu S/Fada Gusau amongst others in my presence at Operations Yaki Kaduna,” he claimed.
The former aide further stated that investigators repeatedly questioned him about his relationship with former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, whom he alleged was their “main target.”
Reacting to the development, political commentator Imran Wakili described the allegation as too serious to be ignored.
“Such a statement cannot be ignored, brushed aside, or treated as ordinary political talk. It demands a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation,” he wrote on X.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency journalist Bakatsine also called for a transparent probe into the matter.
“This is a weighty accusation involving enforced disappearance and alleged extrajudicial killings. The authorities must investigate transparently, and those responsible, if found guilty, must face justice,” he stated in a post on X.
Neither the police authorities nor Matawalle had officially responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
