Arsenal took another decisive step toward Premier League glory with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium, a result that further strengthens their hold on the top of the table as the season approaches its climax.

A late strike from Leandro Trossard proved the difference in a tense encounter that swung dramatically in the closing minutes and left the home crowd frustrated after a controversial VAR decision ruled out a potential equaliser for West Ham.

The match had been finely balanced for long spells, with both sides creating chances but failing to find a breakthrough until Arsenal finally made their pressure count.

Trossard struck from close range after a well-worked move involving captain Martin Ødegaard, finishing calmly to give Mikel Arteta’s side a crucial lead in the title race.

West Ham, however, believed they had salvaged a dramatic point deep into stoppage time when Callum Wilson forced the ball into the net following a chaotic corner situation involving Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.

The celebrations inside the stadium were short-lived as the referee signalled for a VAR review. After several minutes of scrutiny, the goal was disallowed for a foul on Raya in the build-up, with West Ham defender Pablo judged to have impeded the goalkeeper.

The decision sparked heated reactions from West Ham players and supporters, many of whom felt the contact was minimal, while Arsenal’s bench reacted with relief as the review went in their favour.

The controversy overshadowed an otherwise tight contest that reflected both teams’ contrasting ambitions this season—Arsenal pushing for the title while West Ham battle to secure stability in the lower half of the table.

Arsenal’s victory underlined their consistency throughout the campaign, with Mikel Arteta’s side showing resilience in tight matches that have defined their title challenge.

The win also extended their strong run against top-flight opposition, reinforcing their reputation as serious contenders after narrowly missing out in previous seasons.

West Ham, on the other hand, were left to rue missed opportunities, particularly in the second half when they tested Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya more frequently. Raya’s late save to deny Mateus Fernandes proved crucial before the VAR controversy unfolded moments later.

The result keeps Arsenal firmly in control of the title race, with their remaining fixtures appearing manageable on paper.

The Gunners have combined defensive discipline with attacking efficiency, with players like Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard and Trossard playing pivotal roles in their push for the crown.

Depending on results elsewhere, Arsenal could enter the final stretch of the season with a significant cushion over their closest challengers, putting them in a strong position to finally end their long wait for a league title.

For West Ham, the defeat adds further pressure as they continue to hover in the lower half of the table. Despite flashes of strong performances at home, inconsistency has left them needing crucial points in their remaining fixtures to avoid slipping further into trouble.
