The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Saleem Alhassan over alleged involvement in the forgery and sale of fake civil service employment letters to job seekers.

The command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department after the suspect’s arrest.

According to the police, the matter was handed over by the Area Command in Bauchi metropolis on May 18 at about 4 p.m. for further investigation.

Habib said detectives recovered five forged temporary appointment letters from the suspect during preliminary investigations.

The police spokesman explained that the suspect allegedly produced fake employment documents in 2025 and presented them as genuine appointment letters from a government office.

He added that the suspect reportedly used the documents to deceive unsuspecting job applicants, collecting between N500,000 and N750,000 from each victim with promises of securing government jobs for them.

The command noted that investigations were still ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court if found culpable.

The latest arrest comes barely one week after the police apprehended and prosecuted two other suspects linked to a similar employment scam following a complaint from the Office of the Head of Civil Service.

Authorities have repeatedly warned members of the public against paying money to individuals claiming to offer government jobs through unofficial channels.
