Tragedy struck in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after a woman learning how to drive allegedly lost control of a vehicle and rammed into a residential building, killing three children from the same family.

The incident occurred at the Ogbunabali area of the state capital on May 15, throwing residents into mourning and drawing sympathisers to the scene.

Sources in the community said the woman was being taught how to drive by her boyfriend when the accident happened.

According to a resident, the children were inside their home when the vehicle suddenly crashed into the building.

“A young man was teaching his girlfriend how to drive around the area. People started shouting when they noticed the car was out of control, but before anyone could intervene, it rammed into the house,” the source said.

The crash reportedly killed the three siblings instantly.

The children, aged 10, four and three years, were said to be pupils in school before the tragic incident cut their lives short.

Their mother, Amarachi Promise Esomonu, has since demanded justice over the deaths of her children.

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident on Tuesday night.

Police spokesperson, ASP Blessing Kaborlo Agabe, said the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, had directed a full investigation into the matter.

She described the incident as heartbreaking and said it had caused widespread grief in the community.

The command condoled with the bereaved family and assured that necessary steps would be taken to ensure justice is served.
