Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has called on motorists and road users across the country to observe a crash-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration through strict adherence to traffic regulations and responsible driving behaviour.

In a goodwill message issued on Wednesday, the Corps Marshal congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, commending their devotion, discipline, sacrifice and commitment to the teachings of Islam.

He urged the faithful to sustain the values of patience, obedience, love and peaceful coexistence, noting that these virtues are central to both the religious celebration and road safety culture.

According to him, the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir, which symbolises sacrifice, submission and compassion for humanity, aligns with the principles required for safety and order on Nigerian highways.

“The essence of Eid-el-Kabir reflects sacrifice and responsibility, which are equally needed to ensure safety on our roads,” he said.

The Corps Marshal warned that most road traffic crashes are avoidable if motorists exercise caution, patience and respect for traffic laws.

He advised drivers to avoid dangerous practices such as speeding, overloading, drunk driving, wrongful overtaking and route violations, stressing that such behaviours continue to endanger lives and property across the country.

“As Nigerians celebrate, we urge all road users to act responsibly. Safe driving saves lives,” he added.

Shehu Mohammed assured that the FRSC had deployed intensified patrol operations, rescue teams and strategic monitoring across major highways nationwide to ensure smooth traffic flow and rapid emergency response throughout the festive period.

He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to reducing road crashes through proactive enforcement, public enlightenment and collaboration with relevant security and emergency agencies.

The Corps Marshal also appealed to members of the public to support the FRSC by reporting accidents, obstructions and emergencies through the national toll-free number 122 and the National Traffic Radio frequency 107.1 FM for swift response and lifesaving intervention.

He further encouraged Nigerians to use the Eid-el-Kabir celebration as an opportunity to promote unity, tolerance and shared responsibility in building safer roads and a more peaceful society.
