The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has disowned alleged endorsement lists currently in the South East, describing them as unauthorised and misleading.

In a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC said the lists did not reflect its official position and should be disregarded by members of the public.

The party expressed concern that the documents being circulated contained names of individuals who were said to have been endorsed, while excluding several aspirants who had duly purchased Expression of Interest forms and participated in the party’s screening process.

“The national leadership of the NDC is not aware of any such endorsement lists, nor has any list been authorised or approved by the party leadership,” the statement read.

The party urged its State Executive Committees, stakeholders, supporters and the general public to ignore the purported lists, stressing that they did not originate from any official organ of the party.

According to the statement, the circulation of such documents runs contrary to the party’s established internal democratic procedures and risks creating confusion ahead of its primaries.

The NDC reaffirmed that all aspirants who had lawfully obtained Expression of Interest forms and successfully passed screening would be allowed to participate in the party’s primary elections.

It explained that participation would be determined either through consensus arrangements or direct primaries, in line with the party’s constitution and internal guidelines.

The party further restated its commitment to transparency, fairness and due process in all stages of its nomination process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political observers say internal party disputes over endorsements and candidate selection have become a recurring feature of Nigeria’s evolving multiparty landscape, often fueling tensions ahead of primaries.

The NDC, however, maintained that it would not tolerate any action capable of undermining its internal democracy or misleading its members.
