The Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) has commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, for what it described as his firm leadership, operational reforms, and renewed public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force within his first 100 days in office.

The association also backed the IGP’s assurance that schoolchildren recently abducted in Oyo State would be rescued safely, describing the statement as a reflection of confidence in ongoing intelligence-led operations and the capacity of the police to deliver results.

In a statement jointly signed by CCAN Chairman, Festus Fifen, and Secretary, Peter Irehe, the association said the IGP’s assurance had provided hope to affected families and reinforced public trust in the police at a critical moment of national concern.

“At a moment of national anxiety over the fate of the abducted Oyo schoolchildren, the Inspector-General’s assurance that they will be rescued unhurt reflects not only confidence in the operational capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force but also an unwavering commitment to ensuring that every mission reaches a successful conclusion,” the association said.

Marking the IGP’s 100th day in office on June 12, 2026, CCAN noted that the leadership of Disu had introduced a more intelligence-driven and result-oriented policing strategy that has begun to yield measurable outcomes in the fight against violent crime.

According to the association, security operations under his command have led to the arrest of hundreds of suspected criminals involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorism, cultism, and murder, as well as the rescue of at least 277 kidnap victims nationwide.

CCAN described the period as a turning point for the Force, saying it has been defined by professionalism, strategic planning, and renewed efforts to restore public confidence in policing.

“These first 100 days have signalled a clear departure from the old order. They have been defined by professionalism, purposeful leadership, and a strategic vision aimed at strengthening internal security and restoring public confidence in policing,” the statement added.

The association also commended ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the police through modern policing strategies, improved accountability, and stronger community engagement.

It noted that the shift toward intelligence-led policing and better coordination of operations has begun to reshape public perception of the Force.

“From the tactical handling of high-profile criminal cases to the renewed focus on intelligence-led policing, you have demonstrated that effective policing can be firm, professional, and respectful of citizens’ rights,” CCAN said.

The group further highlighted improved relations between police officers and the public, pointing to reduced reports of misconduct, improved response to distress calls, and enhanced communication channels as key indicators of progress.

“Most notably, we acknowledge the significant shift in police-citizen relations. Under your leadership, the police are increasingly viewed as partners in security rather than adversaries,” it stated.

CCAN urged the Inspector-General to sustain the reform momentum, deepen ongoing initiatives, and intensify the fight against criminal networks across the country.

It expressed confidence that the achievements recorded so far represent the foundation of a broader transformation agenda for the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership.

“As you continue to lead the Nigeria Police Force, CCAN pledges its support for your efforts to rid the nation of crime and criminality,” the association said, wishing him continued success in office.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to supporting a professional, accountable, and citizen-focused police institution capable of delivering improved security across Nigeria.
