Former Commandant of the Defence Intelligence College, retired Commodore Kunle Olawunmi, has accused some Nigerian government officials of sponsoring terrorism, alleging that the authorities have overwhelming evidence against them.

Olawunmi made the allegation during an interview with media personality and political scientist, Edmund Obilo, where he questioned the involvement of public officials in activities that threaten national security.

The retired naval officer, who also served as Deputy Director of Defence Administration at the Defence Headquarters, expressed concern that individuals entrusted with protecting Nigerians could allegedly contribute to the insecurity facing the country.

He specifically alleged that some senators, governors and ministers were involved in sponsoring terrorist activities, claiming that the state was aware of their actions.

“The person elected to serve the welfare and security of his or her people accepts to become a source of instability to the land he’s meant to protect,” Olawunmi said.

He maintained that the alleged involvement of public officials raised serious questions about accountability and the government’s commitment to protecting citizens.

“If you want us to go there, who are the people sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria? They are your officials,” he said.

Olawunmi further claimed that the alleged sponsors included individuals occupying prominent positions in government, despite their responsibility to safeguard the country.

“Can you imagine that you are a senator, you are a governor, you are a minister, and we have evidence, overwhelming evidence, that you are sponsoring terrorism against your country,” he said.

He also alleged that the government knew about the activities of the officials he accused, although he did not identify any of them in the remarks provided.

“How do you imagine that? Government officials sponsoring terrorism against Nigeria. And the state is aware,” Olawunmi added.
