Abducted Ekiti CAC Worshippers Freed After 67 Days in Captivity

Worshippers of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igbala, Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, abducted during a church revival in Ekiti State, have regained their freedom after spending 67 days in captivity.

The victims were released late on Friday and returned to Eda Oniyo in Ilejemeje Local Government Area around midnight, ending more than two months of anxiety for their families and the community.

On arrival, the freed worshippers were taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment following the physical and emotional trauma they reportedly endured while in the kidnappers’ den.

The victims were kidnapped on April 28, 2026, when heavily armed gunmen stormed a revival programme at the church’s prayer mountain in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti.

The attackers reportedly opened fire during the invasion, killing one of the pastors before whisking away 15 worshippers into a nearby forest.

A community leader, who confirmed the victims’ release on Saturday, said the worshippers had finally regained their freedom after weeks in captivity.

The community leader, however, disclosed that one of the abductees died while in the custody of the kidnappers, describing the incident as a painful loss that has thrown the affected family and the community into mourning.

As of the time of filing this report, the Ekiti State Police Command had yet to officially confirm the release or provide details of how the victims regained their freedom.

Efforts to obtain comments from the command’s spokesperson were unsuccessful.
