The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections by three days.

The electoral umpire announced that political parties now have until midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, to complete the submission process.

The extension was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.

According to the commission, the previous deadline, as contained in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, expired on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

Haruna said the decision followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which sought additional time on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the stipulated period.

He noted that the commission approved the request in line with its commitment to ensuring an inclusive electoral process while remaining within the provisions of the law.

“The decision to extend the deadline followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), made on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the scheduled timeline,” the statement read.

Haruna added that the extension “underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity in its practices, while acting within the ambit of the law.”

INEC urged all political parties yet to complete the process to make use of the extension by uploading the required details before the new deadline expires.

The commission stressed that the extension provides a final opportunity for parties to comply with the submission requirements ahead of the next phase of preparations for the 2027 general election.
