FG Hails Kano’s Education Drive as 8,588 Teachers, Facilitators Receive Appointment Letters

The Federal Government has commended the Kano State Government for its sustained investment in education, describing the recruitment of thousands of teachers and expansion of learning infrastructure as a major boost to efforts aimed at improving education quality and developing human capital across the country.

Speaking at the presentation of appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers and 3,688 Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Cohort V facilitators in Kano, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, urged the beneficiaries to uphold professionalism and dedicate themselves to nurturing the next generation of Nigerians.

Alausa described teachers as the foundation of every successful society, stressing that the quality of education depends largely on the calibre of those in the classroom.

“You are the most important people in our society. If we have good teachers teaching Nigerian children, we will produce very good students. Please take your time, love them, nurture them and teach them well,” Alausa told the new recruits.

He reminded the them that the opportunity came with enormous responsibility, adding that “much is given, much is expected.”

The minister praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for making education a top governance priority, noting that Kano’s decision to allocate 32 per cent of its budget to the sector reflected a strong commitment to human capital development.

According to him, the recruitment of 4,900 teachers and 3,688 BESDA facilitators brings the total number of teachers employed by the Yusuf administration to 16,000 within three years, making it one of the most significant education sector interventions by any state government in recent times.

“In some states, no single teacher has been recruited in decades. Here in Kano, the Governor has employed 16,000 teachers in just three years. This is what human capital development looks like. These are investments that will produce responsible citizens who will serve Kano State, Nigeria and the world,” he said.

Alausa also commended the governor’s broader development agenda, particularly investments in infrastructure, including the reconstruction of metropolitan roads and installation of solar-powered streetlights across Kano metropolis.

He said the achievements demonstrated what was possible when leadership prioritises education and people, adding that Kano’s reforms align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The future of Nigeria is bright. Kano State has aligned fully with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s development agenda, and the progress we have witnessed here demonstrates what is possible when leadership places education and people at the centre of governance,” he said.

Earlier, the minister inspected the Tarda Smart School in Ungogo Local Government Area, where he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding technology-driven learning across the country.

He described smart schools as a key component of Nigeria’s education transformation, saying digital learning environments would equip learners with the knowledge and skills required for the 21st century.

Alausa also visited Bayero University, Kano, before commissioning the newly built Government Girls Secondary School, Dangwaro, a project aimed at expanding access to quality education for the girl-child and strengthening secondary education in the state.

In his remarks, Governor Yusuf described the presentation of appointment letters as a defining moment in Kano’s education reform journey, saying the exercise was not merely about employment but about securing the future of millions of children through access to quality education.

He said the recruitment of 4,900 permanent teachers alongside 3,688 BESDA Cohort V facilitators reflected his administration’s determination to ensure every classroom is staffed with qualified, competent and committed teachers capable of delivering meaningful learning outcomes.

The governor reaffirmed that education remains the cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda, stressing that every child deserves the opportunity to realise his or her potential through quality teaching and conducive learning environments.

Yusuf also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for their support, while commending Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and development partners for their shared commitment to strengthening education across the country.

The minister assured Nigerians that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue working with state governments, development partners and other stakeholders to improve teacher quality, expand modern learning infrastructure and accelerate reforms aimed at delivering equitable, inclusive and globally competitive education in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
