2027: Adebayo Urges North to Reject Failed Leaders

The 2027 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has urged Northern Nigerians to vote out what he described as failed leaders, insisting that insecurity, corruption and poverty can be significantly reduced within three years under purposeful and accountable leadership.

Adebayo made the call while addressing participants at the Arewa Awareness Summit on Unity Against Insecurity in Kaduna, where he said the North possessed the human and natural resources needed to drive Nigeria’s economic transformation if properly harnessed.

He argued that despite its vast population, fertile agricultural land and political influence, the region had continued to suffer from poor governance, which had undermined its development potential.

“The problems are already before us. Everyone can see them. What Nigerians need now are practical solutions, not endless discussions about our challenges,” he said.

The SDP presidential hopeful, who described himself as “a Northerner by choice,” said he had lived in the region for more than 20 years and remained committed to its growth and prosperity.

According to him, the North’s growing population should be viewed as an economic advantage rather than a burden, noting that countries such as Japan and China were grappling with declining populations and investing heavily to sustain their labour force.

Adebayo maintained that Nigerians have the constitutional power to determine the country’s future through the ballot box and urged citizens to elect leaders with integrity, competence and compassion.

“No one becomes president, governor or lawmaker without the votes of the people. If we elect leaders who truly understand our challenges and hold them accountable, they will work for the people,” he said.

He identified agriculture, education and industrialisation as critical sectors that must be prioritised to generate employment, reduce poverty and restore hope among young Nigerians.

The former presidential candidate also described corruption as one of the biggest obstacles to national development, warning that even the best government policies would fail if public resources continued to be mismanaged.

“It does not matter how well policies are designed; if corruption is allowed to thrive, development will remain impossible,” Adebayo said.

He expressed concern over the increasing number of out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria, calling for greater investment in education, improved learning facilities and better support for teachers to prepare the younger generation for the future.

Adebayo urged Nigerians not to lose hope despite the country’s challenges, saying meaningful progress would require national unity, responsible leadership and active citizen participation in the electoral process.

“We are not as powerless as we think. Together, we can build a peaceful, secure and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

He maintained that with honest leadership and effective management of resources, Nigeria could overcome insecurity and other socio-economic challenges within a relatively short period.
