Alausa Hails Tinubu’s Approval of 3,252 PTA Teachers’ Recruitment for Unity Colleges

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the recruitment process for 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the Federal Civil Service, describing the move as a major boost to quality education in Nigeria’s Federal Unity Colleges.

Alausa said the approval would address the longstanding shortage of teachers in the colleges while rewarding thousands of PTA teachers who have served for years without permanent appointments.

According to a statement on Thursday by the Special Adviser (Media and Communications) to the Minister, Ikharo Attah, he described the development as one of the most significant interventions by the Tinubu administration in strengthening the country’s teaching workforce.

Alausa said priority would be given to verified PTA teachers, many of whom have taught in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for nearly 25 years.

“This is a President who cares deeply for Nigeria and for the future of our country,” Alausa said.

“The President has approved the recruitment of teachers. Priority will be given to absorbing verified PTA teachers, many of whom have served in our Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for almost 25 years. This approval provides them with the opportunity to become part of the mainstream public service.”

The minister described the approval as a milestone under the Renewed Hope Agenda, saying it would improve the teacher-student ratio, strengthen classroom instruction and enhance learning outcomes across the country’s Federal Unity Colleges.

He explained that the recruitment followed a comprehensive verification exercise conducted by an Inter-Ministerial Committee, which screened PTA teachers across the federal colleges.

The exercise, he said, verified 3,252 teachers across the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors, clearing the way for their regularisation after the completion of statutory requirements.

According to Alausa, integrating the experienced teachers into the Federal Civil Service would preserve institutional knowledge and improve the quality of teaching in the schools.

He added that the exercise forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to reposition Federal Unity Colleges as centres of academic excellence through sustained investment in qualified teachers.

The minister said the Federal Ministry of Education would continue to work with relevant government agencies to conclude the remaining statutory processes required for the issuance of the final recruitment approvals in line with public service regulations.

Expressing appreciation to President Tinubu, Alausa said the approval reflected the administration’s commitment to placing education at the centre of national development.

“Investing in teachers is fundamental to building a stronger education system because no education system can rise above the quality of its teachers,” he said.

He assured the verified PTA teachers that the regularisation process would be concluded with transparency, fairness and due diligence.

“This administration is determined to ensure that every child in our Federal Unity Colleges is taught by qualified, motivated and professionally supported teachers. We will continue to pursue reforms that improve learning outcomes and restore confidence in public education for the benefit of every Nigerian child,” the minister added.

He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing policies that strengthen the teaching profession, improve learning outcomes and guarantee quality education for learners in Federal Unity Colleges.
