WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Results, 61.54% Secure Five Credits

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, with 61.54 per cent of those who sat the examination obtaining at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

The examination body announced the release of the results on Wednesday through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, directing candidates to generate a Personal Identification Number (PIN) before checking their performance online.

“UPDATE: 2026 WASSCE (SC) results have been released. Generate your PIN at waec.org and check your results now on waecdirect.org,” the council stated.

According to WAEC, 1,950,726 candidates participated in the examination, while 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent, met the benchmark of obtaining credits in at least five subjects, including the compulsory English Language and Mathematics.

Candidates are required to generate a PIN and serial number on the council’s website before accessing their results on the WAEC result portal.

The process requires candidates to provide their examination number, the National Identification Number (NIN) used during registration and complete a One-Time Password (OTP) verification using their registered contact details.

The 2026 WASSCE for school candidates was conducted between April 21 and June 19, with about 1.96 million candidates participating from more than 24,200 secondary schools across the country.

Although the majority of schools wrote the examination using the conventional pen-and-paper method, WAEC recorded a significant increase in the number of schools that adopted computer-based testing (CBT), continuing the gradual expansion of technology-driven examinations.

The council had earlier indicated that the results would be released approximately 45 days after the last examination paper, a timeline it has now met.

The release follows the publication of the results of the 2026 First Series of the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates earlier in the year.
