The Director-General of the OK Movement, High Chief Peter Ameh, has resigned from his position with immediate effect to focus on his campaign for the Kogi East Senatorial District seat in the 2027 elections.

Ameh announced his resignation in Abuja on Tuesday, saying he would contest the election on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

In his resignation letter, Ameh said stepping down was necessary to enable him devote sufficient time and energy to his senatorial ambition.

“I hereby formally tender my resignation as Director-General of the OK Movement, effective immediately,” he said.

“This decision will enable me to devote the necessary time and energy to my campaign for the Kogi East Senatorial District, where I am the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.”

Ameh, however, said his resignation from the leadership of the movement did not amount to a withdrawal of his support for the NDC or its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

He described Obi as “my leader” and said he would support any decision taken by him on Ameh’s successor as Director-General of the movement.

“I humbly accept any individual appointed by my leader to succeed me in this role,” he said.

The former DG also expressed appreciation to Obi, attributing the formation and vision of the OK Movement to his leadership and personal qualities.

“I wish to express my profound gratitude to my leader, Mr. Peter Obi, for his exemplary leadership, unwavering integrity, and enduring credibility. These qualities inspired the formation of the OK Movement and have continued to shape its vision and purpose,” Ameh said.

He pledged to remain committed to the principles that brought members of the movement together and wished the organisation success in its future activities.

“I remain firmly committed to the ideals that united us and wish the OK Movement every success in its future endeavours,” he said.

Ameh’s resignation comes amid an existing leadership dispute within the OK Movement, with some members having challenged his leadership of the organisation.

His departure is expected to further fuel discussions about the movement’s leadership structure and its capacity to maintain cohesion as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify.

Ameh is now expected to focus on his bid to represent Kogi East in the Senate, while the movement awaits the appointment of a new Director-General.
