Celestial Shepherd, Wife Die in Ogun Domestic Violence Tragedy

Tragedy struck two communities in Ogun State as two women were allegedly killed by their husbands in separate domestic incidents, with one of the men also dying in a road accident while reportedly fleeing the scene.

In the first incident, Evangelist Abidemi Odukoya, shepherd in charge of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Orun Parish, Ibogun Akinode community, and his wife, Adenike, reportedly died following a violent confrontation at their residence.

The couple was said to have been experiencing marital difficulties since December 2025, with relatives, friends and members of their church reportedly making several attempts to resolve the disagreement.

The situation allegedly took a deadly turn in the early hours of Monday, August 31, when the couple engaged in a physical confrontation.

Odukoya was alleged to have hit his wife’s head against a wall before leaving the residence.

Neighbours who arrived shortly afterwards reportedly found Adenike badly injured, with a swollen head and substantial blood loss. She was also said to have been struggling to breathe.

Attempts to take her to hospital were reportedly delayed because the neighbours could not immediately secure a vehicle for transportation. She subsequently died from the injuries she allegedly sustained during the confrontation.

A police source said the incident was reported at about 2am on Monday, prompting detectives from the Ibogun Division to move to the scene.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives raced to the scene, while the corpse was evacuated and deposited at Ifo General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination,” the source said.

The husband was said to have fled after realising the gravity of what had happened.

However, according to the police source, Odukoya later became involved in a fatal road accident at Iyana Coker Bus Stop, via Ifo, while allegedly attempting to escape.

“Later, information gathered revealed that while the suspect was fleeing, he was involved in a fatal motor vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident at Iyana Coker Bus Stop, via Ifo, and died on the spot,” the source said.

Detectives subsequently visited the morgue where the unidentified body had been deposited. Photographs were reportedly taken for identification, after which the police confirmed that the deceased was Odukoya, the man earlier linked to the death of his wife.

The family of Adenike has reportedly approached the police to request the release of her remains for burial.

The incident has left relatives, friends and members of the Celestial Church community in shock, with the circumstances surrounding the deaths attracting concern over the consequences of unresolved domestic conflicts.

Barely 24 hours later, another domestic violence incident was reported at Ogungbade village, near Ayerose village in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

A man identified as Tajudeen Yekini allegedly killed his wife, Toyin Edunjobi, during an argument at their apartment at about 10:30pm on Tuesday, September 1.

Their son was reportedly present when the incident occurred and raised the alarm, drawing the attention of neighbours.

Residents who rushed to the apartment were said to have found Edunjobi lying motionless.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police, prompting officers from the Kemta Police Station to visit the scene.

A police source said detectives evacuated the woman’s body and deposited it at a mortuary, while her husband was arrested.

“Detectives from the station visited the scene, evacuated the body and deposited it at the mortuary. The suspect is currently in police custody. Investigation is ongoing,” the source said.

The immediate cause of the disagreement between Yekini and his wife was not known as of the time of filing this report.

The two incidents, occurring within a day of each other in different parts of Ogun State, have again drawn attention to the dangers of domestic disputes escalating into fatal violence.

Police investigations into both cases are ongoing.
