The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, has received the prestigious Times Heroes Award for his contributions to public service and national development.

Adeniyi received the honour on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja during the centenary celebration of the Daily Times newspaper.

The ceremony brought together prominent figures from government, business and traditional institutions to recognise individuals and organisations contributing to Nigeria’s development.

Adeniyi described the award as an encouragement to do more in the service of the country.

He said the recognition also reflected the collective efforts of officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service.

“It’s very good when you do something, and you are recognised. This should be an inspiration to us to do much better,” Adeniyi said.

The Customs boss dedicated the award to personnel of the Service for their sacrifices and commitment to protecting the nation.

He also acknowledged compliant members of the public for supporting the Service and helping to promote better standards in customs operations.

Adeniyi said the Nigeria Customs Service under his leadership remains focused on improving revenue collection and making trade easier for businesses.

He added that the Service was also working to accelerate the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement.

The Comptroller-General stressed that greater compliance from traders and other stakeholders would strengthen the Service’s ability to deliver on its responsibilities.

He said the recognition would further motivate the NCS to pursue reforms and improve its contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth.
