Education Ministry Workers Block Alausa From Entering Office

Workers of the Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday blocked the entrance to the ministry’s headquarters, stopping the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, from accessing his office.

The workers also prevented the Acting Permanent Secretary, Dr Folake Olatunji-David, from entering the premises as the protest intensified.

A video circulating on X showed workers gathered at the entrance as a motorcade reportedly conveying the minister arrived at the ministry.

The protesters chanted “Alausa must go” while blocking access to the premises.

The action followed a prolonged dispute between the workers and the Federal Government over the proposed concession of King’s College, Lagos.

The workers’ unions have opposed the reported 35-year concession of the school to its old boys’ association.

They have also demanded the minister’s removal, citing concerns over the proposed concession and other administrative matters.

The unions have raised additional concerns about staff welfare and working conditions within the ministry.

The latest protest suggests that disagreements between the workers and ministry management remain unresolved despite previous engagements.

The confrontation also adds pressure to ongoing discussions over the future of King’s College and other issues raised by the workers’ unions.
