Qatar Charity Expands Nigeria Operations With $10m Abuja Housing Project

Qatar Charity has expanded its operations in Nigeria as it seeks to deepen development and social welfare programmes, including a $10m integrated housing project in Abuja.

The Doha-based humanitarian organisation disclosed the expansion during a meeting between Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and its Executive Vice President and Global Programs Officer, Nawaf Abdullah Al-Hammadi, at the charity’s headquarters in Doha.

The discussions focused on strengthening Qatar Charity’s long-term development work in Nigeria, with both sides highlighting sustainable projects rather than short-term relief efforts.

At the centre of the initiative is the Gaduwa housing project in Abuja. The development combines residential facilities with a health clinic and school.

Yakubu welcomed the charity’s expanded presence and pledged the Nigerian Embassy’s support for diplomatic clearance and coordination with relevant government agencies.

He also expressed support for efforts to extend the integrated development model to other parts of the country.

“Qatar Charity has demonstrated a genuine and practical commitment to the well-being of Nigerian communities,” Yakubu said.

He stressed that housing projects should also address other basic needs, particularly healthcare and education.

“Access to basic healthcare and education must go hand in hand,” the ambassador said, adding that the partnership could support development while strengthening Qatar-Nigeria relations.

The expansion reflects Qatar Charity’s broader interest in supporting development initiatives in Nigeria through integrated social interventions.

The Abuja project brings housing, healthcare and education together in one development, creating a model that could potentially serve communities beyond the capital.

Yakubu said the embassy would continue to facilitate cooperation between Qatar Charity and relevant Nigerian institutions as discussions on further projects progress.
