TCN Repairs Four Vandalised Towers on Afam-Elelenwo Line, Urges End to Attacks

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced the rehabilitation of four transmission towers vandalised along the Afam-IPP-Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line.

The affected towers, identified as T50 to T53, were discovered damaged on August 6, 2026, by TCN lines engineers from the Port Harcourt Region.

According to TCN management in a statement issued on Monday, the vandals removed members of the towers and carted them away, leaving the structures requiring rehabilitation.

The company said the incident was the fifth vandalism attack on the same transmission line in recent times, raising concerns over the repeated targeting of critical electricity infrastructure.

TCN said rehabilitation work is ongoing on the affected towers as the company works to restore the integrity of the line.

The company also appealed to stakeholders, including relevant authorities and communities around transmission facilities, to support efforts to prevent further attacks.

“As rehabilitation work progresses, we enjoin all stakeholders to join hands to curb the menace that is threatening the stability of the national grid,” TCN said.

The repeated vandalism of transmission infrastructure poses a challenge to the reliable transmission of electricity, as damage to towers and other components can disrupt the movement of power through the national grid.

TCN has in recent years raised concerns over attacks on transmission infrastructure, with vandalism and theft of critical components affecting the safety and reliability of the transmission network.

The company did not state the cost of repairing the four towers or give a completion date for the ongoing rehabilitation.

It, however, urged stakeholders to work with the company to protect transmission infrastructure and prevent further attacks on the Afam-IPP-Elelenwo line.
